 WELCOME ABOARD!!

Coach Tanja DePass

We are very excited to introduce Tanja DePass as the new Wild Dunes Dolphin's Head Coach for the 2010 season. Coach Tanja has a strong background in swimming. She grew up in upstate South Carolina in a small town 15 minutes south of Charlotte named Tega Cay. She was involved as a competitive swimmer for the city's swim team beginning at age 6. She eventually was offered an assistant coach job soon to be followed by the head coach position and simultaneously, aquatics director. She moved to the Charleston area in 1993. In 1996 she graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. As a State of S. C. certified teacher, Tanja taught in Charleston County at Laing Middle School before deciding to become a full time mom. Today she lives on the Isle of Palms with her husband Marshall DePass and their two sons. She currently serves as a fitness instructor at the IOP Recreation Department in coordination with the city employee wellness program. As a recreation employee she has also coached soccer, instructed tennis and teaches an after school PE and sports conditioning class.

Assistant Coach Courtney Marsh

Coach Courtney takes time off from a busy schedule to meet the challenge of becoming one of two Dolphins assistant coaches. She is a rising junior at the Honors College at the University of South Carolina on a full academic scholarship. This enabled her last year to study abroad in Valladolid Spain. Quite a ways from attending Sullivans Island Elementary School and later graduating From Wando High School. She has also been a Summertime Camp Counselor for the IOP Rec Center and served 5 years on the Mt Pleasant Youth Court. Of course being a Wild Dunes Dolphin swimmer for 10 years helped her prepare for all these challenges!

Assistant Coach Maggie Jo Saylor

Coach Maggie Jo returns to the Dolphins in 2010 as an assistant coach. Not a stranger to the team she recorded a record 13 consecutive years as a competitive swimmer. She is the daughter of long time coach Conway Saylor and her leadership as a senior swimmer was a strong valuable asset for the Dolphins. A graduate of Charleston's School of the Arts MJ is a rising junior at High Point College where she is majoring in Performance theater. She is a college mentor for incoming freshman and recently served as the stage manager for High Point's major theatrical production. Her dedication to the team can be heard as she states "
I have a deep personal connection to the team I grew up on and would love to have the opportunity to give back to it by instilling in the new generations of swimmers the same notions of teamwork and friendly competition that my coaches instilled in me."
